St. Geneviève was born around 422 not far from Paris in Gaul (present day France). Her calling from God came as a young girl, the Bishop prophesying that the young shepherdess would become “great in the eyes of the Lord” and “many will find salvation through her.” Shortly after, she was tonsured into the monastic life and by her asceticism and humility she obtained many spiritual gifts. She cast out demons, thwarted armies, healed the infirm, and helped bring countless people to Christ. She lived a life wholly dedicated to her heavenly Bridegroom, our Lord Jesus Christ, reposing in peace in the Lord around 522. St. Geneviève is the patron Saint of Paris to this day.

The Orthodox Church commemorates St. Geneviève on January 3rd. Holy Mother Geneviève, pray to God for us!
