Belgrade’s Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Sava will be soon completed in two months. 96% of Mosaics are completed, including the Copy of Hagia Sophia’s Theotokos above the Altar. The Cathedral will be covered in 18 000m2 of mosaics, making it the largest mosaic built ever in the world. Serbian Patriarch Irenaeus called the Cathedral the peak of Christian Art.
In the last 3 years, Serbian Government donated 43 millions euros and the Russian Government donated 10, 5 millions euros to speed up the Mosaic works and finish the Cathedral that has been under Construction for more than 100 years. More than 200 mosaic artists, from Russia and Serbia have worked on the Cathedral, under the supervision of famous Russian artist Nikolai Muhin, the decorator of Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral.
