“Archbishop Averky was one of the last of the giants of 20th-century Orthodoxy, not merely of the Russian Church Outside of Outside of Russia, or even of Russian Orthodoxy—but of the whole of the 20th-century Orthodox Church.”
“The abundance with which his golden lips gushed the sweet honey of the pure teaching of Orthodoxy, especially in his most fruitful last years, has perhaps helped to hide from us the rarity and even uniqueness of his teaching in our evil days. We have grown so used to his flaming and bold words that we have not noticed that he was virtually the only hierarch of any Orthodox church writing in any language with such boldness and uprightness in defense of Orthodoxy.”
Speaking of Eugene and Gleb (Fr. Seraphim and Fr. Herman) in the early days of The Orthodox Word, Hieromonk Damascene writes “Although they no longer sought for everything to be inspected prior to publication, they continued to come to Archbishop John [Maximovitch] whenever they had specific questions, and he answered them with love. For answers to theological questions which might arise, he said they should write to Archbishop Averky, with whom he had complete oneness of soul.” (from ‘Father Seraphim Rose: His Life and Works’)

I believe Archbishop Theofan of Poltava was the first one to call out Rasputin and to tell him to repent.
He's so correct about the inner persecution in the midst of apostasy, I feel it and carry it daily …
Please continue to bring us the true Orthodox teachings my friend and brother. My observation is that many Christians are tempted by "prepping." To be clear, one should prepare for the Church of the wilderness, one should be competent in all skills and possess such tools for water purification, shelter construction, fire making and also store food, medical supplies, etc. And one should be competent in the art of evading infrared tracking, which means the use of special materials like Mylar and space blankets in cloaks, and in conventional camouflage, and ultraviolet night vision camo. However, the ungodly temptation is to place one's hope in these things, as though they have the power to save one's life in and of themselves. This is the paralyzing mania that can blind Christians in the moment of crisis and lead them to worship the world and succumb to its perverse and wicked values. Instead, one must be, 'in the preparedness but not of it.' The prepararions are meant for the war, and the war is spiritual. If you save your life but lose your soul, how much better would it be to be martyred? On the other hand, if by prepping you rescue the innocent and carry out God's will, then you will be blessed.
