Monk Moses beautifully describes in his book Killing the Passions the importance of ridding oneself from their passions and how this allows a person to grow closer to God. The word passion comes from the Greek verb πάσχω, which means to suffer or ail. Elder Moses emphasizes that the passions/ earthly desires are exactly what their name suggests, that is suffering. He describes how by following one’s passions they only further remove themselves from God, which brings chaos and pain into their own lives.

This could not apply any better to the lives of us Orthodox Christians in today’s world, where we sadly forget the true meaning of our lives, which is to grow closer to Christ. Thank you! Will you post more from this book in the future?
God bless everyone! Can’t wait to see and read more!
Wow. The Philokalia is a very deep book. And this Monk Moses is explaining plainly the purpose of it. (But even his explanation takes time to observe and understand it clearly.) As does St. Gregory Palamas also and the modern Saints of our times like Saint Paisios and Porhyrios and the rest. Thank you for uploading this treasure.
Those words are so true indeed, they described our pitiful nakedness! Glory be to God for His infinite love for us!
