Fr. Ghelasie:
Father Teofil the blind rebuked a brother in the monastery [Sambata, Romania]… maybe that one did something wrong… and the Father rebuked him, was harsh with him…
Well, that brother was from Maramures [Northern Romania], Mihai was his name, and the he started crying…
And he said, “let me go to Father Seraphim (Seraphim was a very good man and the spiritual father of the monastery) to tell him how harsh you were to me!”
Fr. Teofil: “Go! Let’s see what Fr. Seraphim will do!”
He went there and cried, fell to his knees, shouting: “Reverend Father, I was wrong, I’m convinced that I was wrong, but why was he so harsh to me?”
Fr. Seraphim: “Did Father Teofil do this?”
“Yes!”
“Well, go and call him to come to me!”
He went to him, Fr. Seraphim was the spiritual father of Fr. Teofil as well…
He asks, “Teofil, is it true what this brother says?”
“Yes, it’s true!”
“Where did you learn these things? Have you ever seen this in me?”
“No!”
“So you haven’t seen… Have you ever heard this from me?”
“No, I haven’t heard!”
“Well, if you didn’t see me and you didn’t hear from me, where did you get them?” “And look at this brother, he is crying, you hurt him!” “Kneel down and ask for forgiveness!”
Well, Fr. Teofil immediately fell to his knees and asked for forgiveness.
Then Fr. Serafim said to him: “If you hadn’t done that, then I wouldn’t have received you to confession anymore! Because you didn’t learn these things from me!”
So, I gave you this example in order to see that each of us have our flaws, our outbursts, but we have a spiritual father!
Do you see? How important is to have a spiritual father!
How important is to have a someone to help you! Don’t you think?
You never know, maybe you are wrong sometimes… You break some rules, you outburst…
So true. We all need to be accountable and learn submission , humility and obedience. there is no other way to get rid of that deadly spiritual disease of pride!
To whom can we coffess about our *Father Demitrious-Bartholomew? To us or our people or other Holy Elders does He Confess? Forgive me brethren! I -We ask for your Forgiveness and Confess our sins-faith even Publically….Were did His Holiness EP learn this hypocritical arrogant behavior?
IC XC NIKA!
Thank you and thankful for this channel please keep bringing this treasure of wisdom to us more often! MY god have mercy on me miserable sinner
As a result of poor education in schools and in the family, a large part of the Romanian society disregards and marginalises the persons with disabilities. Unfortunately, this also happened in the case presented by the Father Ghelasie. That brother addressed Father Teofil with "handicap man!" (handicapatule!). And he didn't give up this addressing even after the "penance" done in front of Father Serafim. However, Father Teofil knew how to forgive and even served unreserved Liturgy together with him in a certain circumstance, outside the monastery.
Father Teofil learned starting his youth the lesson of obedience and humility. The lesson of forgiveness and especially of love. He became the great spiritual of the Church, but also the most beloved.
Regarding the "great spiritual Father", here is what Father Teofil said: "I am a great Father for those who listen to me, I am small for those who do not listen to me and I am of no use to those who ignore me".
This is such a lovely sweet story. Blessed are those lucky enough to have someone to turn to. Oh how wish and pray for circumstances to change and allow us the opportunity to be near an orthodox church! Most holy Theotokos, Dave us, pray for our deliverence and salvation. Thank you for a really touching video.
Glory be to Christ, our God
A spiritual father has paternal care for his children like Jesus does for us.
