What is the true orthodox church? Therealmedwhite considers you guys "fake orthodox" so am wondering if Christ did establish one true visible church, how does someone like me determine which is the correct one? I'm protestant and we adopt Tertullian's view of "where the Spirit is there is the church" attitude after he joined the Montanist. I"m not saying Tertullian was correct just so you know where my head has been at thinking about these things for 25 years plus of serving Christ in a protestant church.
(Regarding the Orthodox convening to discuss whether the un-ordained Ukranian orthodox churches are shismatic) I have a few questions from an outsider considering Orthodoxy. Hypothetical Question 1: What would it mean if these churches are ruled 'schimmatics' by the council? Are they not part of the true church and therefore would need to join a 'true' Orthodox church? Hypothetical Question 2: What if the Russian Orthodox church broke off from the others. Would they be like the Roman Catholics and considered schismatics or would those that remain be the schismatics? What would be the 'true orthodox' church? Last, in terms of final salvation, what does it mean to be a member of a church labeled 'schismatic'?
Great discussion and I really appreciate the replies below. Much to learn! Thanks to you all!
