Hold up what do you mean 4 Haloweens? Google is turning up squat on this front.
There's a folk tale here in the Philippines about ghosts of beheaded Catholic priests. Here's the story.
In world war 2 the Philippines got occupied by Japan and the Japanese rule over the Philippines waa cruel and tyrannical. One day they captured a Catholic Parish and beheaded every single priest who were assigned to that parish. These priests were bot easy to kill though. Legend holds that every single priest that was beheaded rose up and picked up their heads and vanished. It is said that the souls of these priests will appear to you randomly and request that you reattach their heads and their bodies. There are multiple versions why this is.
Some people say they want to look presentable to God before being in his presence in Heaven, and some say it's because they can't get to Heaven without their head, but in the end it's just a legend, but the the priest's in the story were actual people who were beheaded, for their faith, but don't worry their souls have already gone to the next life. Let us hope that these martyrs faithful to God until the short end of their lives are in Heaven. Don't worry they're head are attracted to their bodies, if they're in Heaven.
Ala reminds me of the Bakunawa and ancient Filipino sea serpent that was sick of eating fish in the sea.
Long ago the Bakunawa was so hungry that the fish of the sea and oceans can no longer appease his hunger.
Back then the Earth had seven moons. The Bakunawa saw these moons and thought to himself that these moons might suffice for his great hunger. So he ate 6 out of the 7 moons, but the people started to notice "why are some of the moons missing?". Then they saw the Bakunawa.
Seeing that Bakunawa had already eaten the last moon forming a Lunar eclipse. The people of the world started banging and banging gongs, drums, and anything that would make noise just to annoy the Bakunawa.
The noises brought distress to the Bakunawa's ears and made him so sick, that he puked out the 7th moon.
Now every solar or lunar eclipse the tribes people of the Philippines bang on gongs and drums and shout at the top of their lungs to prevent the Bakunawa from eating the last moon.
There are many versions of this story this is just one of them.
Spooky. Also, perhaps a video going more in depth about your multiple halloweens? 0:16
Bojan … I struggled through some of these phantoms reading short stories by Nikolai Gogol not long ago….I’m getting to think Eastern Europe is truly different.
Today marks my one year anniversary of joining Bible Illustrated!
Man, it has grown a lot in the past year. Around 1,800 subscribers a 17,000!
Keep it up, Bojan, and here's to another great year
You disappoint! Where are the Rusalki? The huts on chicken legs? The Quest for Glory IV references?! Heh, good episode, Bojan. Thanks for something new. Waiting for your second video on this theme.
Thank you so much for this video! You are great;)
Can you make a video of malankara Orthodox church (Indian Orthodox church)?
Like for support👇
We don’t have creatures in the USA 😩 just the headless horseman and witches on brooms (haunted houses too). You have real deal weird stuff!
Interesting!
B-but… Every icon I've seen of Saint George kills the Aždaja / Dragon features a creature with only 1 head.
Dang, those are some really spooky drawings Bojan!
Is the Vampire from Serbia? I have often thought your accent sounds just like a vampire. Heh, heh.
I know someone who is called Avet
Bojan, does the word 'babice' always have a negative connotation? Like, aren't there women in traditional Serbian culture who were knowledgeable about how to help deliver babies? (which is what a midwife was)
Female patron=matron
I live in Canada but I have Serbian parents
@bible illustrated So close to Greek mythology. We just have different names for them especially March we call him ΜΑΡΤΗΣ-ΓΔΑΡΤΗΣ ΚΑΙ ΠΑΛΟΥΚΟΚΑΥΤΗΣ. I’ll try to translate march who loves to take the skin off beings with stakes that burn. And it mostly means the weather. I can freeze or burn from the heat
Don’t be so mean to Babas babice lol
I read that John Cena once said “I hate Serbia.”
Because he is Albanian.
I met an avet anf never want again
Our Halloween now really lasts all the month of October. We Begin decorating on October 1st and then people have parties all through the month costume parties mostly culminating in October 31st the night of Halloween. That's when the kids get involved
Aždaja is not a dragon. Aždaja is like a lizard bird with multiple heads. Vampir/Vampire is a word often mistaken for a Romanian word. The word Vampire has been used since 1300s, but hasn't had an actual important meaning until the 1500s. The word was commonly mistaken for a Romanian word because vampires mostly appear in small Vlach towns, and Vlachs are a nation who were created by transfering Serbs into Romanians, but no one knows about that because it was kind of a secret deal between Serbia and Wallachia, Romania.
I am curious about what these "four halloween's." can someone explain?
I'm Serbian so this is exciting in a way
I was told by a Balkan relative that garlic is protection against most evil, additionally it is good to cure most things if you eat it.
