Pure prayer, also known as noetic prayer, is the Orthodox Christian ideal form of prayer. St. Gregory Palamas, who was both a monk in Mount Athos as well as bishop of Thessaloniki, relates to the Christian faithful the importance of fasting and spiritual vigilance to perfect one’s prayer life. He goes further in discussing the peace and joy that prayer can bring to a person who puts in the effort to improve their conversation with God.
