The question of when the Orthodox Church began to baptize children and babies is a simple answer. We have been baptizing children along with their family since the very beginning of the Church. But this week’s “Ask Father Sermon” expands the topic to include WHY we baptize children and makes the case of taking seriously our life in Christ in the Church.
Methodists Do baptize Children. I am a former Methodist, now Orthodox. I was Baptized originally as a Methodist at 3 months of age.
"The Enuch said, "'See here is water, WHAT hinders me from being baptized?"' Then Philip said, '"IF you BELIEVE with all your heart you may."' And he answered and said, '"I BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."' (Acts 8:36,37)….BELIEF is a requirement for baptism. In Acts 2:38 the apostle Peter also said that we have to REPENT before baptism. My question is how can a baby believe with all their heart or repent?
Traditions has brought the church the false doctrine of icons. Jehovah WARNED of this great apostasy!! "They that make a graven image are all of them vanity, and their delectable things shall NOT PROFIT. And they are their own witness, they SEE NOT, NOR KNOW, that they may be ASHAMED. Who has formed a god or a molten graven image(ICON), that is profitable for NOTHING" (Isaiah 44:9-10)…We don't need icons to pray to God. We dont need icons to pray to God. We worship in SPIRIT and in TRUTH (John 4:24). The scripture says those who practice idolatry will not inherit the kingdom of God (Rev 22:15). REPENT TODAY!!!!
father, you said that the Person that is baptized should come to confession. is it mandatory or can that person also repent at home directly to god ?
Jesus said his Father was the "only true God" not the trinity. (John 17:3) Yehovah is the Most High (Psa 83:18). Jesus is the Son OF the Most High (Luke 1:35). Yes, the trinity is FALSE! And the caps are not to scream at you, but to place emphasis on the part you don't seem to understand. And please don't given me 1 John 5:7 (Not in the manuscripts). And don't flip Matt 28:19. There is not 1 scripture that says God is a trinity. "Though there be many that are called gods, but to us there is but ONE GOD the Father" ( 1 Cor 8:5,6) Paul didn t say one God, Father, Son, and holy spirit. You right we are not brothers. Me, Jesus, and Paul believe in the same God. You sir believe in the pagan trinity created at the council in 325 smh.
The Bible doesn't teach infant baptism? Where are you getting this from the book of Acts, as you stated.
I believe I've heard there are something like seven different types of baptisms in the book of Acts and they are not all for today…the book of Acts is a book of changes. The church was just getting going, there was persecution.
A careful study of scripture, which is truly above any tradition outside of it, reveals salvation doesn't require baptism. We cannot do anything to save ourselves but to rely on Christ's atoning death and resurrection for our personal sins for by grace we are saved through faith. Faith is a gift as is salvation and we have to receive it (not by Eucharist, which is also heresy)…we repent from walking in our sin to believing and trusting Christ's death, burial and resurrection as all that was required by God for our salvation.
We do have to believe and accept what God says is true. Salvation is not an automatic-thing for everyone just because Christ died. Ephesians 2:8-9
Excuse me Fr, life brings on the day we are conceived, not the day we are born. (position 14:02 in video).
