THE CRUSADES WERE JUSTIFIED! They were defensive expeditions in response to Islamic conquest. Of course, when Crusaders deviated from their mission they were not justified. But, you can't condemne the principal. Of course, the 4th Crusade was not justified, the Pope excommunicated Crusader army. But, when they deviate from the mission, they're technically no longer crusading. Ever hear of Just War Doctrine? I know yours isn't doctrine, but the Orthodox Just War theory is very close to what the Latin Crusaders followed. Just recently, Putin was encourged by the Russian Orthodox Church to millitarily intervene in Syria to protect our Christian brethren there. Without the Crusdes Islam would of took Constantinpole much sooner and eventually Europe. In the end the Crusdes failed to protect the holy land, but the crusades succeeded in buying Christians enough time to grow strong and be able to defend themselves from Islam in battles like Vienna. Where are you getting your history from, Hollywood? Check out Dr. Paul Crawford, he's good. Also, the Real Crusades History channel on YouTube is worthwhile.

Had Islam come sooner, we wouldn't of been strong enough to beat them back. Crusaders bought Europe (including Russia) time to grow strong and be prepared for Jihad when it came knocking on our door. So, the Crusaders my not have saved the Holy Land, but they did save us. NEVER FORGET IT, they deserve our homage. Don't downplay their sacrafice or role in history. Overall the Crusades were good, we need to recognize that and affirm it, not tip toe around the middle like it was half bad half good. Our enemies are rotten liars and they're telling the whole world that the Crusades were barbarious expeditions motivated by greed and hate of the other. We've got to defend our history now more than ever.
