Metropolitan Athanasios:
The “love” word… A very important and a very serious word, I said that you shouldn’t say this word easily!
Do not tell the other person easily: “I love you”!
In “The Sayings of the Dessert Fathers” we find a young monk who went to his elder and said unto him, “Father, I love you so much!”. And the Father lifted up his head, and said, “I do not think you love me!” “Why, Father?” “So far, I have not found a human being that truly loves another human being”.
It is a great thing to say to someone: “I love you!”
“I love you” means that I am ready to die for you. And not that I expect you to die for me, not my killing you for me, but my dying for you!
So it is. It is impossible today.
“I am ready to kill you for my benefit! You have to do everything to make me happy!”
….

Is this really the sort of love that is expected of spouses toward each other in Christianity , that of Christ for sinners? Then why did Jesus say in Mt 5:32 “But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery”?
Only the highest form of love may be called love?
It would be nice if life fit easily into two people living this way but the world isn't sane. My husband divorced me because I got sick and I couldn't work for money.
I've never remarried, but my husband remarried.
An exception is abuse. Nobody has to stay in a situation where they or children are being abused! It isn't love when you allow abuse.
great as usual.. thank you for translation
Part of a loving attitude is not to force yourself on someone who doesn't love you. So if the spouse leaves, "let him depart".
Thank you Father, God Bless you and the Orthodox Church.
Beautiful video !
Oh! How very profound. How sad my wife says she feels for all the times she feels she has been less than patient. Tears of sorrow are in her eyes. Yes we have had a difficult time, people have not made it easy for us, but still we love each other despite this. My wife says, that she has heard it said, that to love somebody is to see the Christ in them, and to become closer to Christ through loving them. This is a beautiful talk, long may what is said remain in our hearts. Thank you
The Love word in greek is Agape. In John 21:15-18 in the greek text Jesus asks Simon Peter twice if he had Agape/Love for Jesus, Peter said twice that he had Philio love for him. The third time Jesus asks Simon Peter if he Philio loved him, Simon Peter says: Lord thou knowest all things; thou knowest I have Philio love for you.
So this Agape/Love is truly Divine,…….
Peter fulfilled this Agape/Love when he was martyred,…..
This is why the Orthodox Church so honors the martyrs,…..
Lord God help us to truly Agape/Love you,…..Lord Jesus Christ Son of God and Word of God have mercy on us,…..
Depth of love… To love enemy, to die for enemy.. It's true love.. Love even when u are hated, ignored, alienated, neglected, sidelined, abandoned, …. To love one means u r at his side, whatever happens… To love means to die for someone..
I understand where you are coming from.
However, if God loves "us" and gives us the first two commandments by revelation "Love", especially God's Love, is greater to know but harder to define! "Love" has to "flow over mankind so to speak!" Simply because it is "Love!"
Say it more and more mankind throughout the world! 'Til Peace reigns!
Let Your Love flow upon us Lord, for the🎶 "Love of my Lord"🎶 is great!
"🎶The Love of my Lord is the essence…..". 🎶
Thank you and God Bless you all eterrnally.
Amen
