This is the fifth episode from my interview with Orthodox Christian woodcarver, symbolist, and YouTuber Jonathan Pageau.
In this episode, Pageau discusses #zombies, what #zombie culture reveals about the state of the world, and what #Orthodox Christianity has to offer this world.

Yes, well spoken!
Jonathan, this is your most concise and succinct description thus far of our culture’s problem and the solution. Well done! Thank you!
Great content
Interesting!
I never would have thought about the zombie myth from this perspective. Very thought provoking!
I see zombies every day….they have their necks bent like a zombie, they make odd noises like zombies, and they move slovenly like zombies ( not 28 Day later zombies) … they’re called human beings. As I age, I notice more and more people: especially young people with their face buried in a phone, no sense of conversation, and becoming more corpulent and out of shape thus moving slovenly. Perhaps it’s my age. I’m 56, and keep in excellent shape, mentally, physically, spiritually, yet I see very few doing this. As to the young they embrace this secular, leftist gimme gimme culture that they offer their brains up to be eaten by the monster of modernity. It’s sad. So just say no to zombies, and read a book (Chesterton and Lewis can help you out.)
Be well my friend. Another solid clip

Whoever does not believe în Jesus Christ and His rules (found only in Orthodoxy, Orthos Doxa in greek meaning the right way /path) , is a zombie/monster. The only valid lesson about death is that we don't actually die, only the body /the flesh decays (sometimes not even that as in the case of orthodox saints), the body is the temple of the soul, the soul goes on beyond death, either eternal life in Heaven, either eternal torment in hell.I think people who don't believe în Jesus are dead men walking and they really need our support and prayers! I wish salvation to everyone and please take care good people ! I read, among other saints, John Chrysostom's teachings, he explains very well what we need to do so we can save our soul.
Dying to your passions is just placing a higher value on greater ideas and doing those things instead of the lower value and even worthless unprofitable and hurtful ideas.
ok very interesting perspective. yes i understood this.
What about Vampires? Dynastic power/greed/downstream effects of currency (gold has eternal life)
Hey Joe! You wanna play a zombie game?
I see the Walking Dead differently now…thanks!
Thanks for this! Fascinating as always.
I’m sure you’re aware, but there is a wondrous piece of music called The Portecting Veil by the British composer Tavener, an attempt to put the story into musical form. The best recording is with Steven Israelis: https://youtu.be/xT0MF4XNjkA
Did he give us a real zombie apocalypsis?
(Apocalypsis, as in unveiling.)
Brilliant and true.
Now, how do we bring zombies into Orthodoxy?
Sprinkle them with holy water? 😉
Would you please tell me what editing package you use?
Blind consumerism? Being driven by want, given that needs are met? The zombies are the leftists, to be sure, in that they only fail to attack each other, as one does not typically attack oneself, or a mirror image of oneself. Equally unhelpful is the far right siege mentality that takes the zombie analogy literally, and turns everything into a post-apocalyptic shooter LARP. The death of death (Jesus on the Cross?) brings forward an idea i was mulling over the last few days. That we are immortal as we do not witness our own deaths (and the deaths of others is merely experienced though empathy). In this way, death is hard to pinpoint. At the scale of a civilization, the death of the individual is merely a way of life put to rest, until it returns, later. The question, then, is if people change, or the world does. An old paradox about divine destiny vs freewill.
Hey Joe, you wanna play a zombie game?
What about UFOs? Is that not a modern myth?
Gracias !
Once articulated, the parallel between the zombie and the modern nihilist is truly astonishing.
"Zombies" are the culmination of our passions- cultural symbol- preference for death to life in Christ, but Christ tramples death by death! Excellent message. Thank you!
Thank Our Lord for you brothers because this channel is giving The Truth
May Our Lord Jesus bless you
Amen
Thanks! Your channel is very helpful in understanding Orthodox Christianity.
I have been seeing the themes in walking dead appear in our culture as imminently as the herd itself for some time. Thank you for this application, speaking to the religious aspect of this narrative.
This is excellent. Thank You both
This was really interesting theory by the way
it’s interesting to see the parallels between what he says and the movie ‘Warm Bodies’ because in that movie it was (although comical) love that brought the zombies back. In the same way it’s Christ love and trampling of death which has brought my own dead heart back into a relationship in which I can walk with God.
I think he just described ANTIFA Protestors
I enjoyed Mr. Pageau's comments, some of which I'd never considered. To me, the zombie story distills the fears that many people have of modern life: fear of dehumanization (and/or the rise of mob-mentality/anarchy or even of "soulless" AI), fear of the CDC & Big Pharma, fear of the government & martial law, and fear of pandemics. The zombie story also is a way to explore the fact that we have those in society who are extremely dangerous because of various addictions or disorders; dealing with them can be morally problematic at times. How do we deal, for instance, with children who torture and kill, and show no remorse? On the other hand, while they express our deep fears about modern society, zombie stories such as The Walking Dead also serve as a vehicle to bring the message that "you really DON'T WANT society to collapse." As much as we might not care for certain aspects of our society, true anarchy would NOT be the romanticized life of gun-toting adventure or peaceful doom-steading that many video-gamers or preppers might imagine it would be.
Hi JR.
You're all ridiculous.
