Thank you , I am new to Orthodoxy this encourages me.
Father Spyridon is plying violent video games a sin.
It depends what kind of icons. Statues are not so good but Catholics prefer them. Some of the icons show our Lord standing in the east giving way to the rising of the sun. With his hand signs showing mudras. This is false.
As orthodox God the Father cannot be made to look like a man. I must say it may be a tradition but let not our traditions make the word of God no effect. Venerate and Worship are closely tied. Catholic Icons tend to venerate sun worship and Goddess worship.
God bless you father spiridon
You do believe what you are saying.
Dear Father Spyridon, please help me with a question. I often get an intense feeling of headace in the front of my head when I pray, especially when praying the jesus prayer with my rope. Sometimes it travels down behind my eyes. I have been christian most of my life and have prevously taken this sensation as a sign of the prescense of the holy spirit, but I have deepened in my spiritual life recently, learned and experienced more of prayer and the Lord and am not so sure anymore. I do not find this sensation particulary enjoyable, rather I feel I should pray through it. When I do, this often gets worse. What is the matter? Demonic attacks? Or can the prescens of God feel this way? Is it possible to give me an answer?
Based Father Spyridon.
Repent if you have prayed to Mary or saints… repent !!
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus
I have one foot out the door of Protestantism and feel I’m walking towards the Orthodox Church. The stress of how to approach my wife and family about it is hard. Thanks for your videos. They have been a huge blessing.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.
Thank you for your words Father.
This literally goes against everything the Lord speaks of in Biblical scripture and is one of the 10 commandments (thou shalt not make any graven image). You’ve completely taken Exodus 26:1 out of context which is typical of a false teacher. Exodus 26:1 is the Lord describing how the people were to construct the tabernacle as the temporary temple, NOT anything to do with creating personal icons to carry around. The entirety of the Bible points to a single method of salvation which is is then explicitly stated throughout the New Testament and that is Jesus Christ alone. Book of John, Romans, Hebrews, 1 & 2 Peter… Paul speaks about this throughout the Epistles…. Jesus is the way to the Father, He is the Savior. Nothing we can offer of our own effort is of any worth to our salvation. It is by faith alone, in Christ alone by the grace of God alone. Just read through Romans 3:21-31 and all of Romans 4 for starters.
Please don’t allow false teachers like this lead you astray through false teachings that don’t reflect scripture. Colossians 2:8-9 says, “Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, not in Christ. For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ, and you have been filled by him who is the head over every ruler and authority.”
Please be careful of simply listening to teachers like this, repent of your sin, believe and put your faith in Jesus Christ and then read scripture for yourself. Get a Bible and see the Lord’s own words prove this man’s teachings for what they are, false and heresy.
🤲✝️🤲✝️🤲💐❤
We shall not worship, nor serve the creature (Mary, Saints, icons, images…)! But we should worship God only!
𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝟭:𝟮𝟱
²⁵ Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
How do you separate veneration from worship?
It's like the little picture of me next to these words. It's not really me, but you get an idea of me being here.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this knowledge.
Icons as ilustrations of the Gospel are o.k, i love to watch them,
But making icons or graven Images in Order to bow Down in Front of them and to burn incense for them is strictly forbiden by wery second command of God and other Regulations.
Moses die get Order to make some Statue of herubims, but no Order to bow Down in Front of them and to burn incense for them, this is diferent.
Also , there is no command or adwice in the Bible to pray to saints, only to God.
But, weneration of icons or those whom they represent, opens the door to praying to them instead to God. And it leads to wrong path.
Hope I meet you one day at my church in the Wirral, you’re such a great teacher
During covid we are denied to worship in our church, so let us be like the early Christian and revert to the caracombs to pray. The catacombs being our home with Holy images. We will leave the catacomb but we must pray in the mean time and venerate the Icons. God Bless,
icons and saint are the topics i argue with my prostestant parent's the most 😔
The only thing I don't understand is how the same level of veneration goes to the icon of Jesus Christ, as to the saints. I see the same bow and kiss to Christ icons as to icons of saints. Anyone want to enlighten me?
Can you worship an icon of christ or must you only venerate it? What precisely is the difference between worship and veneration anyway?
He does not sound too convinced about what he is saying.
🤔🥰
Exodus 20:4-5 "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven
above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me". Icons are graven images!
Heresy….. Jesus did it all and paid it all. I love st. Paul the apostle to the gentiles but I will not bow to an image of him or pray to him. His strength came from the holy Spirit through Christ. My strength comes from the holy Spirit through Christ. Jesus said pick up your cross and follow me, not someone else. How can you have scripture that says do not bow to crave images and do it and say it's good? You can't and follow scripture . St. Paul didn't bow his self down to Abraham Isaac and Jacob and neither should you.
Thanks for that very useful explanation. I before thought the "icons" were more of individual idols that were worshipped because of their value as artistic handiwork of man. Of course, the Lord wants to be known to each of His children in a personal relationship. A relationship that can't necessarily be put in any preconceived bottle or box. Watch the new series, "The Chosen". I'd like to hear your comment/review of it. So far I've found the episodes very moving, in a good way.
Thank you Father Spyridon for this video. So interesting, educational, & filled with passion.
I don't think were graven images just someones' vile thoughts I listened to someone's explanation on the icon's a true picturebook of the bible until the printing-press was invented in everyone's languages
I was taught that icons were very wrong – these videos confirm an objection I had to those teachings – I always like them anyway.
