This is the fourth episode from my interview with Orthodox priest monk and blogger, Hieromonk Gabriel of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV.
In this episode, Hieromonk Gabriel discusses the dangers of abstraction in the spiritual life, and the need to learn unswerving obedience and patience.

Wonderful. Thank you.
Very helpful, thank you.
Glory to God!
Bless you, this is very encouraging x
Always like Hieromonk Gabriel’s perspective
Thank you. This is really helpful. God Bless.
Met. Jonah was and is a great teacher.
This was both good and, on a certain level, discouraging because of what seems to be a major dearth of spiritual fathers in America. And it seems like many priests are struggling to keep up with all that is asked and required of them already.
Much needed. Glory to God! 🙏☦️
I thank God for my spiritual father constantly.
To everyone here:
What do you think of the tripartite version of man, spirit, soul and body.
Is important to separate spirit from the soul?
Believe hard enough and things become true in your mind, AMEN!
It is not " out of our reach" because it is the Lord Who comes and knocks at our door. If we open His Wisdom does guide us IF we trust and love His Love for us. You are very young still Father. We are called by the Lord to become our unique self in and with and for Him and our neighabour. That is learned through the Mystery of His Love and our humility, over Time…a true journey to become who we truly are.
I agree with you that it cannot be learned from books..they may help..but this is totally the Holy Spirit living in each heart. A Huge and often painful Adventure to discover and recover your life in Christ and its not anything we can guess about. Courage! Go ! follow Him within your soul in all joy and love and tears.
Ljchmom.
@Protecting Veil, Dr. Middleton, I think it would be wonderful to do an interview with Dr. Eugenia Constantinou on her new book, Thinking Orthodox, which is about acquiring the Orthodox phronema.
Thank you for the wonderful videos! Many years to you! 🙏☦️
Bless Father Gabriel.
🙏🏼
Excellent message, presuming the spiritual father is trustworthy. Too many stories of abuse and malpractice. Heartbreaking that it has to be so, but the faithful should be warned about that danger.
Thank you for reaffirming what I originally thought and believed. Lord please deliver me from the misapprehension i have been under. Anastasia 🕯️🙏☦️
God bless you for sharing this encouraging teaching with us!
Just awesome …
God bless father amen 🙏🏼☦️☦️☦️
“ To cut off our understanding”? Are you talking about the spiritual life of a monk or a regular layman, Father? Unfortunately, there are so many priests who should not been ordained. Who has a real spiritual father these days? Matthew 15:14.
I've made myself so bipolar and depressed over my sins. There's so much self hatred that I just don't want to be alive, please keep me in prayer, I am told that I'm "under attack" because i want to go home to my Lord and Savior
Life sometimes feels like being between the rock of ages and a hard place.
This guy is deeply impressive
the voice russia 2015 brought me here!
