Hi! I’ve never mentioned that the music in the beginning is beautiful! Love to listen more.
Thanks for posting! I've recently been baptized Orthodox, am learning Russian, and hope to visit there someday.
The church slavonic is a problem for russians also.
I would not be intimidated talking to you. 🙂
Can you find a parallel Slavonic-English booklet on the liturgy? Or, made one copy for yourself. I did this with Finnish and English.
Hal, find a copy of the liturgy written with modern Russian characters. Not hard to find. Then just flat memorize it. Start with the Otche Nash and go from there. If you speak Russian, it's not that hard. Ask Batushka about words that are not the same in Slavonic and Russian. He will be glad to help. About fifty percent of the words are the same, so you will already know a lot of it.
Good comments
Thanks @Protecting Veil for these wonderful interviews – so helpful, especially during this Lent. I'm so disturbed by the Russia-phobia in the western mainstream media, you have to wonder at it. As a native Brit and Orthodox living and worshipping in the UK, where Christianity has virtually vanished and is in fact viewed with angry hostility by the elite, this channel is a real God-send.
Do the people in Russia receive Communion weekly, or just a few times per year? Do you have to go to confession every time before you can receive Communion?
How does the Russian government treat Evangelicals who live in Russia?
I knew about the grocery stores labeling but, I had NO idea about the restaurants! That is very cool!
St Teresa of Avila wrote about this respect.
Seems like God is blessing Russia but that is only discernable "below the headlines."
Reminds me about Christ and that all I really am is a sinner that needs to return to the love of the LORD.
Thank you for such positive words about our country.
Russian charch was rehabiliteret by Stalin during WW2. I was babtized in USSR in 1978.
1:40. "Russia found out what it was like without God, without Church…"
Let us learn … and let us be 100% faithful to God's kingdom…
Russian here. Hal is right. Russians in general majority respect the Orthodox church even if they're not Christian. Russia is multi-national country with different confessions, religions but we do respect each other. For example, Christians congratulate Muslims with their celebrations, Muslims congratulate Christians with theirs and so on😂 And we feel ok with it. We have Buddhists, Protestants, Catholics, Baptists, Muslims and others. But the biggest part in Russia is Orthodox Christians. And I love it. Even if I'm not Christian yet.
