This is the fifth episode from my interview with Orthodox pastor, theologian, professor, Dean Emeritus of St. Vladimir’s Seminary, podcaster, author, and Protopresbyter, Fr. Thomas Hopko of blessed memory.
Fr. Thomas is one of the most beloved figures in Orthodoxy in America in the past century and the Church in this country mourned his untimely repose on March 18, 2015.
I was blessed with the opportunity to meet Fr. Thomas on a number of occasions, one of which was in June of 2010, when he graciously agreed to sit down with me for this interview.
In part one of two episodes, Fr. Thomas offers encouragement and guidance to those beginning on the Orthodox way.

"Advice for Beginners, Pt. 1" "This is the fifth episode " ???
…."Oh Lord Jesus Christ son of God, have mercy upon me – a sinner."
I had the good fortune of going straight from atheism to Orthodoxy so I have been able to learn the Orthodox way from the bottom up. Hoping to be baptized soon. Pray for me!
Such sound advice, which I have taken to heart, as I explore the Orthodox Church. I really appreciated the directive to "reframe the question". I could of used that advice years ago. Thank you Protecting the Veil. 🙏
God bless us all. There are many mysteries!!!
Thank you for these videos of Father Tom. Just listening to him; especially in this tumultuous times, is calming as it takes me back to when I listened to him on my journey into the Orthodox Church. It’s like talking again with an old friend. May his memory be eternal!
Wise words from Fr. Tom! At twelve years in to the Tradition from a Protestant background, this gets a hearty amen from me. Thank you!
My name is Thomas as well. Glad to share the namesake with him.
I am a catechumen but class has been suspended due to the epidemic so these are filling the gap. THANK YOU!!!
Coming from the Church of England of the old Prayer Book it is not so difficult as it would be for Protestant Reformed, especially in the U S. Fortunately Britain had it's many Saints before the split with Rome. Yet m any American Orthodox priests forget altogether about the British Isles. Never mind, the Antiochian Orthodox is not allied to Greece or Russia or any other ethnic community. all nationalities are represented. so people in the United kingdom can look them up on the internet.
We are starved for Orthodox content, Thank You so much for your work! 🌹☦️🌹
I am drawn to this but I live in a rural setting with no such church.
Could I ask a question? Could someone tell me What is the
orthodox churches opinion of the Gospel of Thomas?
I love this channel, please keep creating content!
As an eastern christian orthodox person, I have been binge watching these videos to learn as much as possible!
🙏
I have received the keys through a different tradition, what would my experience be as a newcomer to Orthodoxy?
