All we want is to not wear a mask in church. Stop being cuckholds to the state and the fear of man.
Is the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese even interested in gaining new converts to Orthodoxy?
I think that its very useful to show them the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. And base their belief on that which actually happened instead of apologetics from the start
I notice a pattern among those in my generation. They confuse social service and caring for others as embracing the 'radical' political "social justice" movement, part and parcel, which ultimately seeks to forcibly redistribute means and to not hold people accountable for harmful actions against others, if the perpetrator holds certain identity labels that they deem should not receive judgment or accountability, among other troubling things. This seems to be a very pronounced and a significant problem in the GO church in the U.S., where young people are following the lead of celebrities that parrot the same political opinions - a political religion, if you will. I hope this doesn't sound harsh but just want to offer an honest comment on my generation. Thank you for another thoughtful video, Protecting Veil and Fr. Panteleimon. ♥️☦️
We do not want to turn the Church into a YMCA, but we need to make certain that the Church does not become a fossil of Phyletism. We should be an Orthodox Church, not just a Greek Orthodox Church. As long as we are more loyal to the language of our forefathers' than to the living word of Christ, we will continue to shrink into irrelevance. The crumbling facade of our Church is perfectly manifested by the state of the Cathedral in Manhattan. It has to be held up by external scaffolding to prevent it from crumbling away. This, to my great sadness, is the personification of what has happened to us. The Sacraments provide the muscle that is needed for the youth to grasp the immensity of the Church, but we need to knock and enter, we need to seek and then we find. I do not know if it is still the custom in parishes in the States, as I now live abroad, but I remember being shunted away from the liturgy as a child and put in Sunday school only to be trotted out for communion at the end of the service. I did not realize until I was twelve that it was the same service every week. We also need to acknowledge that the Church of YiaYia and Papou is part of the history of the Church, and not the Church of our times.
I left my goarch at 14 because it felt like a Greek club where you either had to larp as a Greek (which the non Greek kids often did) or be excluded from meaningful fellowship. (What i did)
Went through hell in secular hedonism, drugs sex money and disease, Multiple neardeath experiences and trauma.
I dont blame the church, but I wish the lifeblood in the youth community at my parish was the faith I know now. Ethnocentrism unfortunately was the living faith there at the time.
This sounds very much like the same conversation that was happening 20 years ago at GOA YAL while parties in multiple cities became wild enough that the only thing needed was a night club bouncer.
Meanwhile the pious denounced “those people” while not embodying any particularly appealing alternative to the “party” church!
Greek-American identitarianism is not phyletism. It is the absence of roots of faith that somehow skipped a generation between yia yia and the “kids these days.”
Indeed we need ministry, mystery and metaphysics as Father suggests.
"1 pound of mother is worth 10 pounds of clergy."
Speaking as someone in the young adult demographic:
Good video. I think being authentically Orthodox should be added to this as well. You can do all the social work you want but if it’s not grounded in the Christ, the Church and the liturgy there is no point to it.
Also, our hierarchs going “woke” like Archbishop Elpidophoros walking with BLM or Met. Savas praising everything “left” isn’t going to gain converts, it’s going to lose people more.
In the end GOARCH can start acting more Orthodox, or, the more traditional jurisdictions like the Antiochians, OCA, Serbia, ROCOR are, and will continue, to gain all the converts while GOARCH moves into irrelevance.
Harsh words, but, someone in GOARCH needs to hear them
Expose them to doubt when they are in an environment where they can find support and answers – but that requires that the Teachers and leaders also expose one another to doubt so that they can cultivate the right answers… we can’t act as if there are no good reasons to reject the faith. We have to be honest with ourselves and honest with them. Only then can we give them the tools that can with stand the onslaught of doubt at a secular university.
I like Fr. George Calcius approach – tell the truth and don't compromise, as he says "Jesus Christ made no compromises"

The only atheist Professor who tried to crush my faith in college was a conservative atheist he enjoyed the Godless nonsense of Friedrich Nietzsche and Ayn Rand. All empathy or kindness or love and all compassion for people who by any logic should not mean anything selfishly to me was a thought crime to him and communism.
And when we got to the empathetic philosophies were the philosophies were Seeking Justice and correcting oppression and pleading the cause of the marginalized was an important thing. I kept quoting the Apostle Paul as well as Old Testament prophets and that particular Professor kept screaming Marxism.
All that Professor could do was give me a tea party lecture he made me feel like it was 2010 to 2012 was make me feel like I was listening to Paul Ryan lecture me about the Godless nonsense from Rand philosophies that came from his favorite philosopher Ayn Rand.
The entire theme for the 2012 RNC was a book called Atlas Shrugged that book was endorsed by the Church of Satan and William F Buckley the founder of the National Review said it could lead to gas Chambers and the old people through that book in our face and told us to suck it up buttercup.
Ayn Rand the place where all non Hitler related conservative conspiracy theories come from see was a woman that came to the United States from the Soviet Union and spent most of her life scratching at Christians that they were communist and socialist and Nazis until she died.( interesting how the Democrats control the churches and ran Screeched the same things that Christians Screech at people that they hate)
That Professor tried to turn me into a Godless conservative he's failed and I even got him in trouble because he got so angry with me that he said the reason why the Apostle Paul said things that he said because well I don't want to say it or this some comment will be automatically blocked but it had something to do with the Apostle Paul being a Jew.
100 prostrations! That is an IN-SANE recomendation. The child will only associate the church with pain. If indeed the church teachings are true to the nature of reality and correct perception- then that needs to be shown to the child. You cannot lead with stick, you can only lead with the carrot.
