This is the first episode from my interview with Orthodox priest and founding pastor of Holy Cross Antiochian Orthodox church in Linthicum, Maryland, Father Gregory Mathewes-Green. In this episode, Father Gregory discusses his path to the #Orthodox #church.
This interview is now nearly ten years old (it was conducted in June of 2010), but the content hasn’t aged at all!

Like no 9. Αυτό θα πει Ορθοδοξία. Σε ελκύει το Άγιο Πνεύμα, η αλήθεια.
Very similar to what I’m going through. I was baptized Church of Christ ( Lutheran ) but have fallen way off that path for decades. It never made a lick of sense to me, like it was forced. And so now at 55 I discover Eastern Orthodoxy. I found a nice small ROCOR parish in my area and will start attending. The Fr. Is extremely patient and gracious with both his time, and his answering the multitudes of questions I’m sure he’s answered a million times before. A journey has begun. ✨
I really liked this, but I would have preferred to see a more extensive interview. It was a nice summary, though.
Similar to my experience. Coming from a charismatic Baptist group.
I looked closely at Rome first before heading east. There is a much different way of looking at God, scripture and life than the legalism of the west.
I’m looking forward to learning more from you, I’m a new convert. ☦️💜
I too am becoming Orthodox, having been a cradle Episcopalian. I found myself having become very much in disagreement with the Episcopal Church. I have found this journey to Orthodoxy an enlightening and inspiring trip.
Just discovered this video. "The radical God orientation"… father Gregory felt at that Vespers… This is simply the TRUTH. The eternal orthodoxy. Thank you!
I grew up in a mega church, Protestant Non-Denominational, but it eventually felt like it was 100 miles wide and an inch deep spiritually speaking. Today I'm being accepted as a Catechumen at an Eastern Orthodox Church and I'm very hopeful and grateful for it.
What exactly were the "obstacles" you mentioned???
Such a beautiful story! my first Orthodox vespers was life-changing for me also!
I as an Episcopalian would NEVER consider Roman Catholicism either. The Dallas diocese has not embraced progressivism, thank goodness, so I am content to remain Episcopalian. But if I had to leave the Episcopalian tradition I would become once again Lutheran (LCMS) or consider Orthodoxy.
Sounds so familiar. After careful study, I concluded that Rome’s heresies generated even greater Protestant heresies, and the only choice was East. Then I found an Orthodox church that uses a slightly adapted Book of Common Prayer, approved by the patriarchate, and conducts mass in English and Latin. Done.
Listening to a Priest who abandons a faith and doctrine he once taught and swore to preserve is like being in a relationship with a divorcée who swears that her love for you is real, this time.’
I would really appreciate a link or reference to the theological claim(s) of Rome that you found to be an obstacle to that tradition. Do you mean the primary of the Roman pontiff? I ask this as an Orthodox Christian.
I was an Episcopalian/Anglican for 43 years. I had participated within the church in every role a layman was allowed to do. As the national and international church began to go down a destructive and an anti-Christian path, with no indication or hope of reversing, I couldn't stand it anymore. Fortunately for me, my wife felt the same and couldn't take it anymore either. We were Chrismated into the Orthodox Church 11 years ago. Our only regret is that we had not done it many years ago.
