This is the fourth episode from my interview with Orthodox priest, scholar, and professor, Fr. Andrew Cuneo.
In this episode, Fr. Andrew discusses the importance of art and beauty in the Orthodox Christian tradition.
Fr. Andrew is rector and founding priest of St. Katherine Orthodox Church in Carlsbad, California. He helped Walter Hooper with research on the unpublished letters of C. S. Lewis, a subject that became the focus of his doctoral work at Oxford University. Fr. Andrew has taught English Literature at Hillsdale College and St. Katherine College.

"Beauty will save the world"
Wonderful.
Such a great video! This channel is such a gem for anyone interested in Orthodoxy. Thank you!
I enjoyed this video apart from one minor detail. While I don’t think capitalism is immune to critique, linking Soviet ugliness and communist-built brutalist architecture to “capitalism” is not really a tenable proposition.
In stark contrast to communist countries, many of America’s most beautiful buildings were constructed during a time of unfettered, booming capitalism. Capitalism has its problems, but a proliferation of Soviet architecture is not one of them.
"Evil is dull, vain, and repetitive."
Did Tolstoi really say that?
I love it.
This is a good guy. I like Father Andrew.
Beautiful.
Thank you!
"Beauty is an ultimate value—something that we pursue for its own sake, and for the pursuit of which no further reason need be given. Beauty should therefore be compared to truth and goodness, one member of a trio of ultimate values which justify our rational inclinations.”
Sir Roger Scruton
“Beauty is vanishing from our world because we live as though it did not matter.”
Sir Roger Scruton
0:32 Yes, there is also a great quote from Andrei Tarkovsky about that:
"Perhaps our capacity to create is evidence that we ourselves were created in the image and likeness of God?"
Thank you!
