This is the second episode from my interview with Orthodox filmmaker, visual artist, and academic, Dr. Nathan A. Jacobs.
In this episode (part two of two), Dr. Jacobs discusses the ways in which #Orthodox #Christianity provides a helpful corrective to #theological problems found in Western Christianity; a corrective that can help Nones understand Christianity properly.

It's great that the Orthodox Church is taking nones seriously. I think the Eastern Church has a lot to offer those Christians who have been disappointed in Western traditions. I might just caution that a literalistic reading of God's hardening of Pharaoh's heart, such as Origen advanced (12:20), is exactly why nones are leaving the church. Equally, the author of 1 Samuel suggests it was God who tempted David into taking a census and then He punished 1000s of David's men by visiting a plague on them.
Excellent! Thank you.
I have a problem with God being solely good as you describe Him. Not vengeful or even with tiniest glimpse of evil. And that problem is the Old Testament. I forgot where that was exactly, maybe some prophet I think, Isaiah perhaps, where it specifically reads that God himself causes evil. And I don’t really know how you would square that up with the notion of the church fathers that sprout it seems to me more from the platonic idea of The Good… not to mention the world is like that. If God permits or tolerates evil, he automatically participates in it since all things are made by Him, evil things included. This makes much more sense than the rather forced traditional view
Would this point of view be Theism or Deism. It is certainly comfortable because you don't need to do anything but can feel virtuous anyway
Thank you for this! Lets get the NONES
It seems unseemly and uncouth to project a bar of multiple alcohol bottles to speak about Orthodoxy.
