Lovely!
I have always considered Lewis honorary Orthodox. He was known on more than one occasion to sneak out and attend a Greek Orthodox service. Yeah, Letters to Malcolm may be the epitome for adults, Narnia and the North! for children.
I too am a HUGE C.S. Lewis fan! I am so grateful for these interviews Dr Middleton, thank you for doing them. I enjoy them so much I have gotten some members of my parrish looking into them including my sponsor and her husband.
Excellent! Thank you Dr. Edith Humphrey!!
Why do you use the word atonement?
Atonement is an added word in scripture.
It’s propitiation.
Very nice video…. her enthusiasm is nice to see. I’m a C.S. Lewis fan as well. I’ve read Mere Christianity as a young man, a middle aged man, and as of Monday an older man of 55, and each time I take something new from it, and wondered how I missed it the first time.
We see the world, and it’s wondrous ways, as the dark hair turns a flaxen gray,
What seemed to mystify a young man’s gaze, somehow became an old man’s haze.
And still Lewis perplexes and intrigues me. That is the sign of a brilliant writer….

Excellent! Thank you!!
A very helpful book in understanding the difficult book of CS Lewis, the abolition of man is the book by doctor Turley called the abolition of sanity.
Her book on Lewis is amazing, and what a delight it is to see her in this interview!
Would like to hear more from Dr. Humphrey!
Enjoyed this, but the echo is a wee bit distracting. Thanks.
Screwtape, Four Loves, Great Divorce, Abolition, all good.
Excellent. Would love to hear more of Dr. Humphrey and/or interviews on comparative ecclesiology, this is a key issue or great practical importance.
She's right. That Hideous Strength was truly a scary and truthful book.
Enjoyed Dr. Humphrey's comments on C.S. Lewis. I've enjoyed and appreciated his writings and would love to read more.
Thank you for this! Dr. Humphrey is very genuine in her thoughts, it was not like a presentation, but more like sharing from the heart.
Bring her on for more!
" He passed away last November because of what happened to Kennedy"?
What does this mean?
Broken heart?
I never knew he so self identified as an American.
So glad my Orthobros love Lewis, but just remember one thing…he’s ours (Anglicans)! 😉
For it is written:" THE Creator Yahweh has NEVER forgiven any sin of any sinner any time and THE Creator Yahweh will NEVER forgive the sins of sinners ever."
Yahweh forgives the unintentional sins of the RIGHTEOUS ONLY.
Lev. 4: 2, 13, 22, 27. Numb 15: 27- 30.
Yahweh CANNOT change the scripture.
THE creator Yahweh has a MUCH better way of dealing with the sins of sinners.
The sins of sinners are unforgivable.
Sinners KNOW what they are doing. Unforgivable.
Yahweh sent His literal genetic SON Yahshua to die for the unintentional sins of the Righteous.
To those who will CEASE from sin Yahweh tells His literal genetic SON Yahshua to set that soul FREE. FREE from sin. Rom. 6: 22.
John 1: 29 tells that Yahshua will TAKE AWAY the intentional sins of sinners ONCE.
There is NOT ONE soul in the scripture that sinned TWICE.
TAKE AWAY means TAKE AWAY.
When Yahshua TAKES AWAY a sin from a sinner that sin CANNOT be committed again EVER. 1 John 3: 9.
Christianity is a religion of sinners condemned to the lake of fire WITH their sins. Rev. 20: 14- 15.
Repentance is Yahweh's GIFT to those who will CEASE from sin.
1 Peter 4: 1.
ALL who sin with the knowledge of sin are children of the devil and MUST be born again to be saved by Yahweh's GOODNESS. ( GRACE)
1 john 3: 8.
For it is written:" The wages of sin is DEATH."
Yahweh CANNOT CHANGE this scripture or any scripture BECAUSE it is written.
John 3: 1- 8. John 1: 12- 13. 1 John 3: 9. These alone will be saved.
Rom. 6: 22. 1 john 3: 6. 1 john 5: 18. These alone will be saved by GRACE.
The ONLY Promise in the scripture for the sinners is :" The wages of sin is DEATH. " The second DEATH on judgement day. Rev. 20: 14- 15.
1 Peter 4: 18. NO salvation for the ungodly and the sinners. John 3: 1- 8. john 1: 12- 13. 1 John 3: 9.
May THE creator Yahweh give you understanding in these salvation scriptures.
Heb. 12: 14. These alone will be saved by Yahweh's GOODNESS. ( GRACE ).
Bless you
I have become more critical and more appreciative of Lewis as an Orthodox covert with some years in the Church. I was weened on Lewis, both his fiction and nonfiction. Lewis employs the law of non-contradiction in ways I don’t think the Fathers would. He is often heading toward the truth but ironically, he has too much faith in the power of pure reason to get him there. Once in a while it leads to a nonOrthodox conclusion. Unfortunately, I don’t recall a specific example. His mythic imagination redeems his over-reliance on logic.
Too bad he wasn't Orthodox. Otherwise he would be relevant to Orthodoxy.
Thank you! So good to hear someone affirm the importance of The Abolition of Man.
I wonder what she thinks of tolkien's work
Lewis, Aldous Huxley, and Kennedy died on the same day!
