Father my son and I grew up Catholic but when he was about 10 (and taking confirmation classes at a cathiloc church) he started to attend a Protestant school because that was all I could have afforded at the time. These wonderful people had a church service 5 days a week first thing in the morning for an entire hour they taught the word of God to our children. Taking that into account plus all of the religious and scripture homework that he came home with where it was both him and I learning the word of God in correct context together. During these first few years I realized I really did not know much about the word of God at all. I tell you this to say that both him and I confess our sins to our Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus on a regular basis and ask for forgiveness and strength to do His will according to His word by the power of the Holy Spirit that is in us and with us because I have thoughts towards the ungodly people around me on a regular basis and I have to constantly remind myself that Jesus said he did not come for the righteous but that he came for the Lost. Although my son does not share all of my perspective, I still go 2 Catholic confession when I can because the word of God does say that we should confess our sins one to another, during these confessions I have gotten some very great advice and also the majority of priests are blessed and anointed righteous Godly men who have the authority by their prayers to ask God for forgiveness for us. But to reiterate my son and I do on a regular basis ask our Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus for forgiveness of the things we failed to do, the things we speak and the things we think of almost everyday. 😊🙏
Thank you father for your short but rich teachings. I have benefited a lot from them. I especially thank you for making them ad-free. May the Good Lord continue to bless you and please keep me in your prayers
Thank you
God bless you father, you have taught me so much!
The Eastern Orthodox do believe that Jesus is both God and man right? And when he rose from the dead he was in his body also right. Because I want to be baptized soon
Father Spyridon , where can I message you directly? Thank you
Father I left you a message on your Facebook book section. Thank you
I have Confession this week , I needed this!
Rather live in a monastry than be a civilian in todays age!
Confessing Not To Man But To God, For Only Jesus Christ Can Forgive Our Sins.
I am a protestant and i DO confess my sins to God the father.More than i wish was necessary at times.
I do confess my sins, but directly to GOD! how is that wrong?
Father Spyridon, could you discuss violence and war from an Orthodox viewpoint? Such as the Armenian situation and the recent war invasion of Karbakh by Azerbijan. Thank you, I would appreciate some spiritual guidance on this issue.
God bless you father Wishing you all the love and blessings in the new year
this lesson is exactly what i needed. it’s almost as if my mind was read and this video appeared miraculously. Praise be to God!! thank you Father Spirodon !! thank you!!
Thank you
Love the pictures….and the message….in world of corrupt preachers…..the Christian monks are true vessels of God's messages…..
“When we confess our sins, God is near to us.” I needed to hear that.
Dear Elder, I frankly plead with you, for the sake of elder Paisios & even Christ Himself, & from my heart to pray for my sister; who has completely drifted away & whose heart & mind were distorted by the atheistic community. She might lose her eternity, she's a poor gullible 16 year old child who's being deceived into licentious living & cladding in flamboyant styles .
I'm afraid she might be used by pimps & whenever we try to speak to her, we can't get a word in edgewise .
I beg you Father, to help me, her name is Eriny (meaning peace)
Be to her, what saintly Elder Paisios was to the young man of the gurus .
~Written with tears
I need confession, it's true, I a protestant, are riddled with pride, to my detriment.
May God give us all the strength to confess our sins.
Thank You
Father, is there a way to contact you via email or something? I have some personal questions (I mean, questions that are personal to me) regarding gender dysphoria. I have realised the need for confession, and have tried to post the message under the video dealing with lust (since it was that video which made me realise that I needed to correct my ways), but it seems to get deleted automatically after a certain amount of time.
I have it saved as a text document thankfully, so all my writing was not lost!
Having risen from sleep, I offer unto Thee, O Saviour, the midnight hymn, and falling down I cry unto Thee: Grant me not to fall asleep in the death of sin, but have compassion on me, O Thou Who wast voluntarily crucified, and hasten to raise me who am reclining in idleness, and save me in prayer and intercession; and after the night’s sleep shine upon me a sinless day, O Christ God, and save me. Amen.
Your blessing, Fr Spyridon – I love your videos. Did you know that the Last Judgment icon you showed in this podcast is my grandfathers? (at 3:53) Fr Luke Dingman. The original is in our church, in the Narthex above the doors as you leave. I thought it was so cool when I looked up and saw one of his icons in such a unique place 🙂
5:14 that is my exact problem why i avoid confession. I need to fix my pride. Thank you father, God bless you!
My family converted to Orthodoxy, USA Antiochian Diocese, in December 2006; we have never been to Confession.
We have no idea what the Sacrament of Confession is.
We are/have been members of one of the first Antiochian Congregations in Detroit.
We want very much to participate in the Sacrament of Confession.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us sinners.
Dear Fr. Spyridon, as a convert I have a question. I've heard here and there you can go to confession with a spiritual father or mother who is not a priest and unable to absolve, but be absolved by a priest at a different time. Or confess to one priest at a distance, say over the phone, and ask a local priest to absolve you. Is this true? It's confusing to me. I came from a Catholic background where you only confess to a priest, who then absolves you, in a single rite. Thanks.
You don't need to confess before man. Confess before the Lord, a priest has no power to grant forgiveness.
Father bless.
Thank you Father from the Orthodox desert of North America Kuna Idaho ☦☦☦
