With the aid of St. John Chrysostom, St. Macarius the Great, St. John Damascene, and St. Maximus the Confessor, Fr. Seraphim explains that death entered the world through Adam’s sin, the first human, and spread to the entire cosmos. Since death entered the cosmos through Adam (Romans 5:12), as the Spirit-inspired Fathers teach, evolution is not a compatible explanation of history as it depends on death to further the change of creatures.
This subchapter focuses on the origin of death in the world, but the book has much more to say about the Orthodox understanding of the origins of creation and mankind.

Beautifully articulated points here by Father Seraphim. Theologically, this theory is very dangerous.
We're not at liberty to understand in a precise, materialistic and mechanistic way the manner in which everything was created. The stories given us by the Church and Her Saints (encrypted though they may be) are enough for us to live as proper human beings.
Not to mention that the mechanism of the theory itself is based on many illogical presuppositions that scientists refuse to address. As our understanding of our current biology changes, more and more is this elusive "history" being invalidated (epigenetics for example). It's way too chaotic, and not any more useful than the symbolically, mystically and infinitely profound prophecy expressed in the story of Genesis elucidated by the Holy Fathers. Even if we do "figure out" and "prove" evolution, it still won't be useful for our salvation, and therefore the salvation of the whole cosmos.
This theory is also rebellious to antiquity, and is the sole reason it was accepted by many in the West, which should be enough for people to question it as ideas born from rebellion are ususlly demonic in character.
