Fr. Nikon remembers an Englishman who was troubled by his Church and went to India, Calcutta, in search of a genuine spiritual experience. He studied at the Hindu Faculty for four years, but still he did not find what he was looking for…
“And the principal of the Faculty of Theology, of that foreign religion in Calcutta, tells him: ‘If you want something deeper, then go to the Orthodox’. And this was told to him by one of another religion.”
And then he found that the Monastery across the street from his house is actually the Essex Monastery…
“He was excited, he was a catechumen at the time when he told us this, and now he is waiting to be baptized.”
Amazing story! Glory be to God!
Doxa to Theo!
Excellent story
Thank you for this brilliant story! It's very similar to mine, and I think so many people are searching for this "thing" outside…
I was told to be Orthodox by the director of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – the Roman Catholic conversion program) at my local Catholic university ministry. Go figure…Glory to God!
Lets come together and stop the abuse on Hinduism. Sarah Landry has cheated and abused Christianity, and now Hinduism:
Iisuse ai mila de noi
Why would you need a Hindu to point out the True Faith?
That Hindu is probably laughing saying "ohhh, he is just found himself A Path to God and it worked thanks to me"
The hindu theology does not convert the faith…. The past history is witness to this… There had been no conversions of faith, no missioneries of any kind….it is instructed to follow the faith or belief one carries and strive for excellence there only… Yes, like any other religion it has a conventional side to it and a deeper side to it…
The depth to reach requires a guru and the truth is one does not find a true guru, the guru finds you then…till a level is attained, the condition that is.. And the guru may or may not be in a physical form… The outer guru just pushes you inside till you find the stillness or deep silence or the inner guru …the outer guru is required for passover, of what we call to overcome the Mara, the distraction..It's in ancient scriptures..
What orthodox church does is we call it Sadhna, the journey…to attain a level where a true guru finds you, the outer guru may be in spirit forn or in physical form..
Surprisingly the goal is same, the stillness and silence, rest the nature or spirit takes over….
When the man across the street was instructed to go back, it's just an ordinary instruction from a very deep person, which is termed as go back to your roots….and strive for excellence there… And the man got convinced in four years to take a step across the street , very striving fellow,Bravo, to perceive it in such a short time, for there are those who never understand the need to journey back to roots … A Strict Saying is, Go back where you come from…
Hue and cry is marketing, one cannot be above unless someone is below…surprisingly it is…
