Meditation on Scripture: Hebrews 11: 13 “Sacrifice”

“These all died in faith… and said that they were pilgrims and strangers on the earth” (Hebrews 11: 13)
Meditation:
Abraham was one of them: he left everything behind and embarked on an unknown way. And here he reached the highest point of his calling. Abraham was given a son, he was living well, he was prospering, but he had to tear himself away from this, and a very great trial awaited him. And he could have turned around, he could have become angry having heard his son’s question: “But where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” But Abraham replies: “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” (Gen. 22: 7-8). He steadfastly goes forward to the land of Moria – he is not one of those who always hesitate, put off fulfilling a duty, act indecisively, and only at the last minute, reluctantly carry out an order.
Abraham silently and immediately obeys, without even trying to learn the reason for this order. It is sufficient for him that the Lord so wills it. In his place we would probably tremble in the face of the sacrifice demanded of us, forgetting that “God will not allow us to be tested beyond what we can bear, but as we are tested will also provide relief, so that we will be able to endure it” (1 Cor. 10: 13).
Why anticipate beforehand everything the Lord may require of us? He will give us strength for real trials, not imaginary ones. Let us only go resolutely forward, and He will meet us at every need. He will alleviate our need to the extent necessary. He will surely and safely lead us to the end if only we put our complete trust in Him and think of His omnipotence, and not our powerlessness.
The Lord often requires sacrifices from us in order to prove His omnipotence. He, Who, as the Son of Man, humbled Himself even unto death, death on the cross, and shed His blood for us, did He not thereby remove from us the fear of death? Can it be that we are still hesitating to follow the Lamb to the very land of Moria?
The Lord needs such souls who, like Abraham, are ready to give Him everything that He requires, but we, in our discontent, seem to argue with God, bargain with Him, and don’t let out of our hands that which He wishes to take from us.
Let the Lord help us without complaint and without hesitation place on the altar everything that is most dear to us, — to sacrifice our Isaac, our treasure, our hopes, everything that we live for, all our joy. Let each of us resolutely go forward to the land of Moria, following the Lamb even unto death. The Lord will reward us a hundredfold for everything.

«Все сии умерли в вере… и говорили о себе, что они странники и пришельцы на земле» (Евр. 11:13)
Авраам был один из них: он оставил все и пустился в неведомый путь. И здесь он достиг высшей точки своего назначения. Аврааму был дан сын, ему жилось хорошо, он был в довольстве, однако ж он должен был от него оторваться, и его ожидало величайшее испытание. Он мог еще вернуться с полпути, он мог возмутиться, слыша вопрос сына: «Где же агнец для всесожжения?» Но Авраам отвечает: «Бог усмотрит Себе агнца для всесожжения, сын мой!» (Быт. 22:7–8). Он твердо идет вперед до самой земли Мориа – он не из тех, которые вечно колеблются, откладывают исполнением долга, действуют нерешительно и только в последнюю минуту, нехотя, исполняют приказание.
Авраам в молчании повинуется сейчас же, не стараясь даже узнать причину этого приказания. Для него достаточно, что так велит Господь. На его месте мы, вероятно, дрожали бы перед требуемой от нас жертвой, забывая, что «Бог не попустит нам быть искушаемыми сверх сил, но при искушении даст и облегчение, так чтобы мы могли перенести» (1Кор. 10:13).
К чему заранее перебирать все то, что, может быть, потребует от нас Господь? Он даст силы для истинных, а не для вымышленных испытаний. Будем только идти твердо вперед, и Он встретит нас при каждой нужде. Он облегчит нашу нужду, насколько оно необходимо. Он наверное безопасно доведет нас до конца, если только мы доверимся Ему всецело и будем думать о Его всемогуществе, а не о своем бессилии.
Господь часто требует от нас жертвы, чтобы доказать Свое всемогущество. Он, Который, как Сын человеческий, смирил Себя даже до смерти, смерти же крестной, и пролил Свою кровь за нас, неужели Он тем самым не отнял у нас страха смерти? Неужели мы все еще колеблемся следовать за Агнцем до самой земли Мориа?
