Saint Ephrem the Syrian was born to pious parents in Nisibis, Mesopotamia. Ephrem was called to the monastic life from a young age, and his ascetical works lead to him being gifted great grace by God. Saint Ephrem the Syrian is known within the Orthodox Church for his profound writings both through hymns and homilies; which speak to his great spiritual life.
