This is a very sound and deep-rooted advice. After being completely obsessed with music for decades (being a pianist), I've realized that music truly became Integrated with a life more in tune with prayer and devotion, when I've let go of this obsession ( through the grace of God), to the point of sincere detachment and deep love at the same time. A paradox.
Amen Amen Amen.
Woof. That was deep. Wise man.
This is really helpful as people in the vocation of poetry travel through life and in and out of the public or social eye. Like Eric Liddel, a runner in the 1925 olympics, got to experience God's pleasure at his running, so poets are gifted with the unique chance to meet in God in writing throughout their life, coupling sensitivity with God's healing presence. Thanks Dr. Middleton and Scott Cairns!
Rilke in his Letters to a Young Poet (awesome IMO) falls short of conveying the soul of the poetic act is knowing God incarnate, the Holy Spirit, the Father, and bringing the inner essence, the inscape (Hopkins), of the world back to him–in that sense being a eucharistic (giving of thanks) act.
Nice
Wonderful. I have a collection of his poetry and was delighted to see his name come up here on your channel. Will we hear anymore from here in this space? ๐
Really essential advice. If you obsess over the outcome, the method, the journey becomes insurmountable. A curse instead of a blessing. And the idea of your art being a gift to you from God, not the opposite. Really excellent.
